Current Topics in Biological Research- Research Seminars
Course Coordinators: S. Taraviras (Professor), A. Mouzaki (Professor)
The aim of the course is to critically understand the topics related to current issues in Biological Research within the field of Biomedical Sciences.
Educational Objectives
Within the course framework, graduate students are called to comprehend both the theoretical approaches and the tools/techniques used to answer research questions in biomedical sciences. The processes of literature review, theoretical and laboratory approaches, as well as presentations in scientific articles regarding contemporary issues in Biomedical Sciences, are presented in detail. Special emphasis is placed on modern and complex methodological/laboratory approaches, through the presentation of scientific articles published in important scientific journals. At the same time, the course aims to familiarize students with literature search, formulating research questions, selecting appropriate techniques to solve them, and writing scientific papers. Specifically, the course presents the structures, questions, and answers to research topics through in-depth reading and discussion of scientific articles. Students familiarize themselves with research issues and contemporary approaches through the study and presentation of scientific papers. Finally, the structure and basic principles of publishing a scientific article are analyzed, with active participation from both instructors and students. The interdisciplinary research seminars featuring invited speakers in the program aim to deepen selected scientific topics through interaction with guest scientists.
Course Content
The course includes lectures and review presentations by faculty members, as well as student presentations of original articles. Additionally, students are exposed to research topics from various fields of Biomedical Sciences, presented by distinguished scientists from Greece and abroad, as well as faculty members from the University of Patras.
